The NGO law sponsored by Justice Minister Ayelet Shaked, which was passed last week by Israel’s Knesset, imposes new reporting requirements on NGOs receiving more than fifty percent of their funding from foreign political entities.

- NGOs receiving a majority of their funding from foreign political entities must declare this fact in public advertising campaigns, which are carried out by means of billboards, television and newspapers, websites and online advertising;
- Such NGOs must declare their foreign political funding in any communication with public servants or elected officials, and in reports it publishes for the general public. The latter reports will list the names of the foreign political entities from which the NGO received funding.
- A representative of an NGO receiving a majority of its funding from foreign political entities must declare this fact in meetings of Knesset committees.
- NGOs violating these requirements can be fined in an amount of up to NIS 30,000.
- The law will go into effect starting January 1, 2017, and will apply to donations received from this date onward.
