Ir Amim (“City of Nations” or “City of Peoples”) focuses on Jerusalem within the context of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
The mission of Ir Amim is to render Jerusalem a more equitable and sustainable city for the Israelis and Palestinians who share it and to help secure a negotiated resolution on the city through sustained monitoring, reporting, public and legal advocacy, public education and outreach to re-orient the public discourse on Jerusalem.
Ir Amim envisions a city that ensures the dignity and welfare of all its residents and safeguards their holy places, historical and cultural heritages – today, as well as in the future. Ir Amim aspires to a sustainable political future for Jerusalem as the shared capital of two sovereign states – achievable only through a negotiated Israeli-Palestinian peace process.
Ir Amim was founded in 2000, and became active as a non-profit organization in 2004.
Ir Amim is the go-to organization on Jerusalem:
Exposing developments on the ground and informing policy debate in Israel and across the globe through monitoring and delivering expert analysis, on-the-spot and in-depth reporting – and by serving as a critical voice in the media – on policies, plans and facts on the ground that influence the opportunities for an agreed-upon resolution on Jerusalem and Israeli-Palestinian relations in the city.
Working with Israeli and Palestinian partners on public and legal advocacy promoting policies that respect the rights of both the Israeli and Palestinian communities to live in dignity in the city, and creating bridging frameworks towards a peaceful and agreed-upon resolution.
Re-orienting public discourse on Jerusalem by exposing thousands of people each year – from Israel and abroad – to the political complexities of the city via field-based study tours, public events, briefings and educational programs.
