The name of Ir Amim’s 2015 Jerusalem Day event, Meuhleket, was designed to capture the duality of Jerusalem – a united/divided city, a city united in name but divided in practice. Featuring such speakers as Prof. Hillel Cohen of Hebrew University, Prof. Haviva Pedaya of Ben-Gurion University, Khaled Khatib, director of the Palestinian Heritage Museum in Jerusalem, and Haaretz journalist Nir Hasson, presentations and discussions provided a much needed alternative to mainstream Jerusalem Day events by raising critical questions about the political, social and economic challenges facing Jerusalem today.
